Allopathic doctors conduct ayurvedic drug trials in Indore


 INDORE: Allopathic doctors in Indore and eight other cities in India have conducted clinical drug trials for ayurvedic and herbal remedies on patients ignoring the Indian Council of Medical Research's (ICMR) ethical guidelines. The drugs tested include an ophthalmic medicine, Opthacare, and a novel herbal molecule.

Two Indore doctors had carried out the trial for drug manufacturers at their private clinics in Indore while the others did it in various parts of the country. The trials were done on patients suffering from chronic conjunctivitis migraine. Opthacare was tested on 116 patients. Another 214 patients were given the herbal molecule by allopathic doctors across nine cities.

The drug trial came to light after Congress MLA Pratap Grewal asked a question in the Madhya Pradesh assembly about herbal medicine clinical trials conducted by allopathic doctors. Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said allopathic and government doctors tested herbal eye drop Opthacare on 116 patients. The trial was conducted at private clinics. So, the government did not tell the assembly if ICMR guidelines were followed.

TN Govt approves Siddha wings at 10 ESI Hospitals

TN Chief Minister Dr J Jayalalithaa today ordered setting up of Siddha departments at 10 ESI hospitals in Tamilnadu, including Tambaram, Sriperumbudur and Thiruvottiyur. She has also ordered creating of 20 new vacancies to implement the initiative. According to an official release, the government led by Jayalalithaa has been implementing various measures for the benefit of all sections of the society. ‘The government is aware that workers play a major role in the industrial and economic growth of the country,’ said the release. It added that a consolidated protection scheme called Employee State Insurance is being implemented effectively in the State. The release also said the Chief Minister has ordered setting up of Siddha wings at ESI dispensaries at variouis places of the State.’ As per her order, Siddha departments will be created at ESI dispensaries at Tambaram, Sriperumbudur and Thiruvottiyur in Chennai zone, Kumbakonam and Pallipalayam in Salem zone, Tuticorin, Rajapalayam and Kovilpatti in Madurai zone and Pollachi and Thudiyalur in Coimbatore zone,‘ it said. For the effective functioning of the above facilities, 20 new vacancies would be created and filled up, the release said further. ‘This initiative of the State government will protect the health of workers and their family members, besides increasing the productivity of the employees,’ concluded the release.
